Interview with Björn Hering, media entrepreneur. Written by Melanie Gath.
Meet a family whose version of getting outside means hitting the beach, hiking around an island, or catching some waves. Björn Hering is a dad of three, currently living in Bali with his family. Franz was lucky enough to sit down with him for our latest "Father to Father" chat.
When asked about a typical weekend at their place, Björn thinks back to his own childhood and the constant debates about going on a family hike. "We have the exact same discussions, just about the beach," he says. It's hard to imagine if you only see the ocean on vacation, but for them, it's just everyday life. So, what's his trick for still getting the whole family out into nature regularly? "Take it in small steps." And, as he puts it: "Once they're outside, they don't want to go back in."
Björn calls himself a "media entrepreneur." From interactive TV formats to hosting and producing a wide variety of shows, films, and series – the media world is his home. When Franz asks what he hopes to pass on to his kids, Björn says, "There's a very fine line between 'passing something on' and 'forcing it on them'." He's very careful about that. For example, even if he thinks one of his kids would be great at making YouTube videos, he has to accept it if they just aren't interested.
Does Björn have role models who inspire his parenting? What does he think he's good at as a dad, and what would he like to get better at? And how does he handle it when his daughter gets caught cheating at school for the first time? You can find out in the interview.
